Important Documents

It is EXTREMELY important that you have your original birth certificate, social security card and Texas ID. CPS is required to get these documents for you by the time you are 16. Make sure you keep these in a safe place and don’t lose them. Many of the benefits you will apply for will need copies of these documents or the information on them.

Getting these documents replaced can be a little difficult and time consuming but it can be done. To get your birth certificate, you will need to contact the vital statistics office of the state where you were born.

To get a copy of your social security card, contact www.ssa.gov or call 1-800-772-1213.

To get your Texas ID, go online to https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/driver-license/how-apply-texas-identification-card
