 If you age out of foster care, you qualify for free health insurance until you turn 26. You will need to apply for health insurance and follow all the steps to make sure it is done correctly.

You can apply for health insurance online but ask your PAL work to help you with all the questions to make sure it's done correctly and BEFORE you age out of care. If you have to do the application on your own, log in at 

www.YourTexasBenefits.com

Dialing 211 is an easy way to connect with the department of health and human services where you will find medical benefits and other financial assistance services. You can also go online to https://www.211texas.org/.

When you call the Medicaid office make sure to ask for a “foster youth specialist.” This person will have the most accurate information to get you signed up for health insurance and other services.

Medicaid only covers medical care until you are 20 years old. After 20, you will need STAR Health. You can get more information about getting this insurance by contacting the Medicaid office.
